I believe in the power of storytelling.
Growing up in the midwest I was told fantastical tales of Jack and the Beanstalk, Robin Hood, and The Grinch, many of which are still lodged in my memory. I spent nights dreaming about fighting villains and days acting it out (sometimes against my will - I have an older brother). I became a character in my own plays - in my own adventures - and I was enveloped. These stories became a part of my daily life, and looking back I couldn't be more appreciative of the people who passed down these tales and helped sculpt the imagination that I have today.
There is nothing more I would like to do with my life than spend my days telling stories, and the most beautiful and effective way I've found to do that is through acting. When I think back on the stories that have really affected me, really pushed me to think about the world in a different way, they were passed on to me through either theater or film. I've been stretched and shaped by watching the great actors of our time - the Marlon Brandos, the Philip Seymour Hoffmans, the Mark Rylances - and I want the opportunity to give some kid what they've given me: I want the chance to become that sculptor for another generation.
